“To avoid causing terror to living beings, let the disciple refrain from eating meat… the food of the wise is that which is consumed by the sādhus it does not consist of meat.” The Buddha. Here are quotations from some famous thinkers and personalities advocating vegetarianism: Even though many of them were born in meat-eating families, they gravitated to a vegetarian lifestyle as they advanced on the path of spirituality. Apart from the Vedic culture, many spiritually evolved souls in the history of all cultures around the world also rejected a non-vegetarian diet that makes the stomach a graveyard for animals. The answer to this question is that the Vedas prescribe a vegetarian diet for humans, which includes grains, pulses and beans, vegetables, fruits, dairy products, etc. The question may arise whether we can offer non-vegetarian items to God and then accept the remnants as his prasād. Shree Krishna states in this verse that eating prasād (food that is first offered as sacrifice to God) releases one from sin, while those who eat food without offering commit sin. Christianity has the sacrament of the Eucharist, where bread and wine are consecrated and then partaken. Other religious traditions follow similar customs. All the food in the plate and the pots is then accepted as God’s grace and eaten in that consciousness. After the offering, the food in the plate is considered prasād (grace of God). ![]() A portion of the food items is then put in a plate and a verbal or mental prayer is made for the Lord to come and eat it. It is produced by Teatru Malta together with the Malta International Arts Festival.In the Vedic tradition, food is cooked with the consciousness that the meal is for the pleasure of God. Pope Joan will take place at the Mdina Ditch on the 6th, 7th, 9th, 10th, 11th and 12th July. The production will also feature the all-male Cappella Sanctae Catharinae choir under the direction of Alex Vella Gregory. Costumes and production design are by Joachim Hamster Damm while projections are by Darrin Zammit-Lupi. Pope Joan is being played by Maria Buckle, with the rest of the cast being made up of Antonella Axisa, Chris Galea, Faye Paris, Alan Paris, Mikhail Basmadjian, Alex Weenink, Michael Mangion, Joe Depasquale, Stephen Mintoff, Peter Galea, Ileana Sammut, Julian Zammit and Miguel Azzopardi. Instead she focused on learning to read behind her father’s back by disguising herself as a boy to further her learning at a monastery where she would be accepted as a male monk until eventually becoming – legend has it – the first and only female Pope to have ever lived. Why? Because she was a woman, a woman who refused to concede to the constraints that were imposed upon her. ![]() Joan is a defiant and determined female who will stop at nothing to acquire the knowledge she has been so unfairly denied of.
